We, the residents and allies of Dauphin County, call on Commissioners George Hartwick, Justin Douglas, and Mike Pries to vote YES on the resolution that would prevent local officials from cooperating with ICE.

Between February and July 2025, ICE arrests in Dauphin County skyrocketed by 630%—with at least 71 of those arrests linked directly to our county’s own agencies. These numbers are more than just data points. They represent workers, neighbors, parents, and friends—real people whose lives have been upended, families torn apart, and trust in local government shaken.

Among those impacted were Bhutanese community members who came to Pennsylvania seeking safety and stability. One of those detained, 32-year-old Chaofeng Ge, died by suicide just five days after being transferred from our county into ICE custody. His death is a tragic reminder of the human cost when local agencies serve as a pipeline to federal immigration enforcement.

This resolution is about making Dauphin County a place where all residents—regardless of immigration status—feel safe accessing public services, sending their kids to school, or seeking help from law enforcement. It ensures our county resources aren’t being used to tear families apart or instill fear in entire communities.

Critics may argue this resolution ties the hands of law enforcement, but it simply protects the boundaries between local duties and federal immigration work. It’s about making sure our schools, probation offices, courthouses, and jails don’t become extensions of ICE’s reach. And it ensures that taxpayer dollars are spent on serving our community, not carrying out federal deportation policy.

Commissioners: show us that Dauphin County stands for dignity, safety, and fairness. Vote YES on the resolution to end ICE collaboration.
