Equal Allocation of Constituency Fund for all ADUNs irrespective of parties

Equal Allocation of Constituency Fund for all ADUNs irrespective of parties

The Issue

Datuk Patinggi,

We, Sarawakians and other Malaysians who love Sarawak, urge the Sarawak State Government to give constituency development funds, including Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) and Minor Rural Programme to all State Assemblypersons (ADUNs), http://www.theborneopost.com/2017/03/20/rm5m-rtp-allocation-not-given-directly-to-reps-abdullah/ regardless of party affiliation in either the same amount (for example, RM 5 million for RTP) or based on the same formula based on electorate size and/or landmass.

Constituency development funds are public money that should be given to all ADUNs irrespective of party affiliation. The current practice of limiting to only ADUNs from Barisan Nasional (BN) is an outright abuse of power and an insult to the people of Sarawak.

According to Sarawak United People’s Party President, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, you (Datuk Patinggi) “had asked opposition leaders to join the state Barisan Nasional (BN) if the latter wanted government grants”. http://www.theborneopost.com/2017/06/04/join-bn-to-get-govt-funds-dr-sim-tells-opposition-leaders/

Datuk Patinggi, this statement made by Dr Sim on June 3, 2017 has unfortunately portrayed you as an arrogant, discriminatory and petty leader who wanted to use public fund as bait to induce opposition lawmakers to switch side.

Datuk Patinggi, we believe you are a democratic, fair and caring leader for all Sarawakians regardless of our political preference, who would support all needy Sarawak people and communities without first asking if we have voted for BN in the election.

As Malaysians including Sarawakians have voted in for a new Malaysia that would treat all citizens fair and just, we appeal to you, Datuk Patinggi, to announce a policy that would open all constituency funding to all ADUNs regardless of party affiliation in the same amount or based on the same formula, with a rigorous auditing mechanism to ensure such funds will benefit ordinary Sarawakians.

We thank you for hearing us out.
