We, the undersigned students of Queen’s University Belfast:

Urge the University Management to take note of the unprecedented damage that the current UCU strikes pose to the education of its students.  We petition:

1.    That the University resolves its dispute with its staff either by resuming national negotiations with UCU or by other means to avoid any further disruption to its students.

2.    That the University now compensate all students affected by the strike for any failure on the University’s part to deliver lectures, seminars, research supervision or any other services otherwise contracted for.  We reserve the right to individually bring claims for compensation arising out of any damage to our graduate prospects, future earnings, accommodation costs and any other costs incurred as a result of the University’s failure to deliver upon its contractual obligations towards its students.

This is not to suggest that many of us, as students at Queen’s University Belfast, do not support the strike. Many of us stand in solidarity with our tutors and lecturers. However, this support does not overshadow the serious disruption the strikes will cause to both our studies and finances if they continue to go ahead.
