Stop Dartmouth College From Evicting International Students

Stop Dartmouth College From Evicting International Students
The Issue
A week from today, more than one hundred international students will face homelessness and food insecurity due to the College's last-minute decision to evict them. In these challenging times, we are asking Dartmouth College, as our only support system in the United States, to extend us concrete, impactful, and rapid assistance.
Please sign this petition and help us compel the College to allow us to reside on-campus, whether we are enrolled in classes this summer term or not.
We cannot simply go home for a number of reasons. We cannot fly home, as in the College’s words, Dartmouth “continues to discourage all international travel for students, faculty, and staff” due to the ongoing pandemic, and it is either impossible to find flights or prohibitively expensive to purchase them. Many of us also cannot enroll in classes this term, as that would violate our visa restrictions, opening us up to a number of legal consequences including loss of work authorizations. Neither can all of us afford to pay for our own off-campus accommodations (57% of all international students receive financial aid), especially with the two weeks' notice that Dartmouth gave us.
We understand that our Black brothers and sisters all over the country are currently waging an important battle against systemic racism. We do not wish to detract from their voices, but we would not be releasing this petition if it was not incredibly urgent. We hope you can take the time to quickly sign and share this petition, after which we encourage you to join us in donating, promoting, and educating ourselves in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
