Lucan Leisure Centre & Swimming Pool for people not profit

Lucan Leisure Centre & Swimming Pool for people not profit
The Issue
Lucan Leisure Centre and Swimming Pool must be a public amenity and not subject to privatisation.
This amenity considered essential in 1980s’ Lucan, now in 2021 is vital for a vastly expanded and growing population. This publicly, and Lucan community, funded amenity must be delivered on a not-for-profit basis.
South Dublin County Council state that ‘tender process for the management of the facilities’ will be put into effect in the coming months. This threatens availability to many.
The centre - run on a not-for-profit basis - has been vital for the wellbeing of many over the decades and the mix of people using it reflected Lucan well in class, age and ethnicity.
The leisure centre has for decades provided a first class service to the community and the present management and staff have the expertise and professionalism and valuable links to community groups to continue - and expand - their service in the new centre. This would not feature in a privatized centre.
This is an essentialinvestment in our community and in our children’s future.
