Rethink May 16
Rethink May 16
The Issue
As just about everyone on the Outer Banks is now aware, Dare County, Hyde County and Currituck County are letting visitors into our area on May 16th. This is just a little over a week away and to put it bluntly, we are NOT ready. The community has expressed multiple times that we are not ready to let visitors in. Dare county has not responded to the many emails and calls they have received about NOT reopening yet. Our shelves are bare. Our locals who work two jobs in the summer to survive in the winters are still out of work. We still can not go to a hair or nail salon (some of the hardest hit by this). You cant go to a gym or restaurant. The state is still under a "Shelter in Place" order. People are still dying every day. Our numbers continue to rise (slowly thanks to people heeding the advice) but they are still rising. By opening the flood gates to our little community we will be hit hard. Our hospital is not equipped with the means to help even 20 people with the virus. The community wants to reopen with you. But until the community can SAFELY OPEN we should be taking care of our own. Not visitors. Please join me in saying that we are NOT ready for what is to come. This past week alone we have let in hundreds of NRPO. Most of them coming from the hottest spots hit by the virus. The weeks that will follow will undoubtedly prove a point. Please sign the petition to make Dare, Currituck and Hyde rethink their visitor reentry date. We all know the county's want that Memorial day money but its not worth even one life if we can save them. Please help save ourselves and our community! Please rethink May 16th.
