Stop Hartford Bailout and Return $5.1M in State Aid to Southington

Stop Hartford Bailout and Return $5.1M in State Aid to Southington
The Issue
Over the past 6 months, the town of Southington, a well-run fiscally responsible municipality has lost $5.1M of state aid. As a result of this cut, our schools are at threat of losing teachers, and the residents risk elimination of town programs benefitting our community. Recently, the residents were informed about the $500M Hartford bailout agreement. We, the Southington residents believe that taking money away from our town and giving it to fiscally irresponsible City of Hartford represents an unethical and unfair treatment of our community. We, as constituents urge all of our local legislators and representatives to work together with State Treasurer Nappier and OPM Secretary Benjamin Barnes not to enact the agreement, and return the $5.1M in state funding to the town of Southington.
