In 2015, the owner Daniel Zachariou decided to bring Adam Baldwin who coined the controversial hashtag GamerGate to Supanova Sydney after the GamerGate fiasco and has recently made a couple of anti-vaccination posts and covid denying posts.

In 2016, the owner posted a petition on his personal facebook page that called for transgender education to be stopped in schools, even though he did apologise it still has tarnished the reputation of the con.

Earlier this year he shared a petition that expressed his anti-vaccination views on his Facebook which brings into question how he can provide a safe convention experience for everyone.

Over the past weekend at Sydney Supanova, an exhibitor was allowed into the convention that sold merchandise that had ideologies that shouldn't be allowed into the convention, reports are that the owner and founder of the convention was buddying up to them and until the community found out about this, there was no attempt to remove them despite them being banned.

The way that Supanova handled this is not enough and more action needs to be taken as Supanova should be a place where people of all different communities can come together in their love of pop culture and not have to feel uncomfortable at a con because an exhibitor was allowed to sell their hurtful and harmful merchandise, especially in a place that is frequented by families and young children and the fact that the owner allowed this to happen is rubbish.

As one of Australia's leading pop culture convention, it needs to be better managed and run by someone who has better morals, a sustainable business ethic and respect for the community that attend it frequently as everyone deserves to feel and be safe and not uncomfortable attending a pop culture convention.
