Daniel Brooks Keepers of the Name
The Issue
Daniel Brooks Keepers of the Name members include the great granddaughter of The Reverend Daniel Brooks, High Point Housing Authority Pillars of Fame honorees, and citizens of High Point. We sent a letter to the High Point Housing Authority February 9, 2022 requesting an opportunity to share why the name of the new housing development should retain the name Daniel Brooks. Furthermore, we desired to share ideas on how to memorialize the distinguished civic, educational, and ministerial leader Daniel Brooks. The High Point Housing Authority is receiving $6.5 million from the City of High Point and $36.5 million from Housing and Urban Development. The High Point Housing Authority’s acceptance of federal and city money obligated them to hearfrom the community. It is ironic that the High Point Housing Authority chose Black History Month to drop Daniel Brooks’s name from the new housing development. We support Daniel Brooks Legacy Ridge as an acceptable name. If you agree that Daniel Brooks should be in the name of the new affordable housing development, email HPHA CEO Angela McGill at amcgill@hpha.net or City Council member Chris Williams at Chris.williams@highpointnc.gov.
