Steeplechasing in Victoria is a danger. We hope to inform as many people as possible of the dangers this sport poses to both riders and jockeys. This will not create a big change but could improve over time. It could also improve their own lives if they are the type of people that gamble on races like this, if they stop because they realize exactly what they are spending their money on.

Every Australian state except South Australia and Victoria has already stopped jumps racing – many of them decades ago. A University of Melbourne study finding that horses competing in jumps races are nearly 19 times more likely to die than horses competing in flat races. While all states except Victoria and South Australia have banned steeplechasing, Victoria actually stages many more jumps races than South Australia. Most horses competing in South Australian jumps races are from Victoria – and the majority of prize money goes to Victorian owners and trainers.
