The Issue

Hope. SO far in 2020 there hasn't been a lot of it. Lets face it; globally, 2020 has been a disaster. Right about now i think everyone in Australia and worldwide has encountered enough disappointment to last a lifetime.

So let's change that. Let's offer hope to those around the world. Lets say to people; we're not done for yet. We're still in this fight. We can still make it, we can still make a difference. Let's light the beacon for the entire world to see - let's change the name of Mount Disappointment to Mount HOPE.

14 year old William Callaghan has shown us that there is hope. He survived two nights; alone, cold and hungry. Just think about that. How he must have felt. How his family must have felt. They never gave up HOPE. Two explorers in the 1820's named a mountain, because it spoiled their view - fair enough. But things change. It doesn't mean we have to go around re-naming everything. But this tells a story. In years to come, a young girl in a car may ask: "mummy, why is it called Mount Hope?"

"Well darling, this brave teenager with Autism managed to...."

The rest is history.

Fires have raged. Statues have toppled. A virus has spread. But we are still not deterred. If something ever summed up What it is to be Australian, it's never giving up. Getting stuck in. Rolling up the sleeves and helping out.

We need to show the rest of the Human race.

Mount hope can be a symbol. A symbol for whatever you want it to be! To finally make Black Lives Matter. For the Queensland premier to finally open their border (Why is it still closed?). For America to get rid of that Oompa Loopma buffoon in charge, for Disney to make a decent Star wars film, and for teams like Carlton, Liverpool and Minnesota Vikings to actually win their domestic competitions for once. There is hope!

Stand together - yes this is pretty trivial and in the grand scheme of things, won't stop World hunger or domestic violence or solve homelessness, BUT, it can ignite something, it can offer that glimmer of hope to people who may just think, 'you know what, i'm not gonna take this laying down. I CAN DO THIS. I CAN DO ANYTHING'.

William Callaghan did. And then Disappointment became Hope.

Do it. Get it changed. Show the people.

Mic Dropped.
