Sports, public events, cultural sites have been closed in Victoria due to Covid19. Unnecessary travel and people movements has been restricted in Australia. There is no reason why the 2020 Victorian Duck Season should be exempt from these necessary laws for slowing the spread of Covid19 in the community. The Duck Season will mean that people will be travelling into rural communities, where both supplies and medical facilities are limited in comparison to urban areas. Travellers could well bring Covid19 into areas that would have been relatively free of  the virus. Many citizens have had to give up sports, hobbies, cultural activities in the name of public safety and one leisure activity should not be privileged over others. For many years petitions condemning the annual assault on waterbirds have been circulated, which the Victorian government has consistently ignored. However given the strong stance that the Andrews government has taken over protecting public health, especially in relation to Federal government policies, cancelling the 2020 season is inline with State Government policy. Sign now to ensure that social distancing is maintained, and unnecessary travel is canceled, and save ducks and waterbirds too!
