We recently received noticed, via a sign post at the cemetery, stating that a programme of work was to be carried out at the cemetery . This work would involve flattening graves. The notice also states to remove any memorials and flowers to aid in levelling and if not these will be removed. 

Islamic law forbids people from stepping on graves, the process of flattening graves means that the graves will be rolled over. This would also lead to the chances of people then later walking over the graves.

If Danescourt cemetery allows for multi-faith burials then it should also allow for and respect customs of these faiths. It is a human right to exercise religion, a right enshrined in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Families are already struggling with the loss of their loved ones, the thought and worry of graves being flattened and stepped on will only add to the pain and suffering of all those involved.
