Be fair, if you RFP TRC, RFP all housing and homeless services!

The Issue

1.5 hours before the last chance for public testimony on the county budget, the Tenant Resource Center found out it had been singled out as the only agency in the Housing and Homeless Services group that County Board Chair Sharon Corrigan thougth should be sent out for RFP (bid out the contract, a "Request for Proposals"), and Health and Human Needs Chair Jeremy Levin supported that.

In fact, the Tenant Resource Center was the only agency targeted in all of the $250 million Human Services budget.

Why only the Tenant Resource Center and not the other 11 housing and homeless services agencies that have funding totalling over $1.5 million?  Is it retaliation and intimidation? We support accountability in our local government, please do it right and have all agencies in this group be treated equally and go through a thorough review for 2016 funding.

It is very unlikely any other agency out there has the expertise and experience to better provide the mediation, housing counseling and housing search services and if you RFP this now, there will be a gap in services while the process works itself out.

Leave TRC funding for 2015 so they can continue services in January, vote down P & F Amendment 14 and do the right thing, review housing and homeless services completely and equally.

Housing and homeless services are too important in our community not to do that.
