Instate Castle Doctrine in Washington State

The Issue

This has been a long time coming, but last night gives me reason to address this issue. 24 states have Castle Doctrine giving the right to defend not only yourself, but your property as well. Washington state gives more rights to criminals than the law abiding citizens and this is a problem. I'm a 21 year old student who lives in Everett, Washington, the robbery and theft hole of the state. The other night someone attempted to steal my motorcycle but failed.

I called 911 to report the crime to which I was essentially told by Everett Police Department "a person's life and an object's aren't worth the same". However, if you are willingly stealing someone else's possessions, you are also putting your life at risk for whatever consequences come your way. Everett PD told me that if it happens again to just write down a description of my motorcycle, the suspect, and then let them take the bike (which I will likely never see again). This is WRONG. Citizens are born with the rights to LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Once someone else is attempting to take away my pursuit of happiness, whatever happens should happen. This is my only form of transportation, without it I would be unable to go to work, help others, and wouldn't have finished my college degree. Many citizens in Washington aren't scared of the criminal population, they're scared of our lawmakers who are corrupt and would rather side with criminals. I've had multiple things stolen out of my driveway this year and I can do nothing about it.

Instate Castle Doctrine in Washington state and give criminals a reason to be afraid. Because as it currently stands, homeowners are the ones cowering in the corners of their house waiting until a gun is pointed at them before they can shoot the one committing the crime. Make the criminals afraid to commit the crime. It's better to prevent crimes from happening than to apologize for the aftermath.
