Dear Chesterfield County:

I am writing to ask you to support and grant the Johnson Family at 3911 Timber Ridge Rd., Midlothian, VA 23112 a conditional use permit to keep their pet Kunekune pig, Tucker, at home with their family.  As well as Amend/Clarify Chesterfield County Ordinance/Laws to state that Kune Kune, Potbelly, and Mini Pigs are NOT livestock and allow them as pets!  Here is the Wikepedia definition of Livestock: Livestock are domesticated​ animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food​, fiber and labor.

A pet pig when trained and cared for appropriately is just like a pet dog.  As research tells us pigs are very intelligent animals and are a great alternative to having a dog as a pet with many of the same characteristics.  Pigs do not shed as most dogs and cats do, which makes them a perfect pet for those that have allergies to pet hair!  Tucker the Pig lives with the Johnson family just as any dog would live with a family. He is very well behaved and loved by all that come in contact with him!

I think that this is important to grant this permit and change any existing laws in Chesterfield County, Virginia concerning these pets, as it will be positive for the Johnson family, Tucker and the community.  As there are many Chesterfield citizens and others following this story, granting this permit will be another example of Chesterfield County’s diversity.
