Petition: Move Dallas Pride to Fair Park During Pride Month!
The Issue
The Problem:
There are a lot of problems that Dallas Pride will run into if it stays where it is.
- No Restroom Facilities
- No DART Rail Access
- Parade Limited in Length by City
- Must Rent Generators
- It Has Reached Attendance Capacity with No Room for Growth
- Attendees Have Reduced Visibility
- There is No Parking
- There are No Vendor Facilities
- There is No Alcohol Consumption Legally Allowed
- There are No Alcohol Vendors
- Significant Amount of Police Presence Needed
- Reverchon Park (Where the Festival Currently is) is Being Turned into a Pro Baseball Stadium. Oak Lawn Park has Been Outgrown.
- The City's Office of Special Events Requires More Things Each Year Increasing Cost and Regulation
- There is No Indoor Option During Inclement Weather
- The Cost of Putting on the Event is Very High
- Cedar Springs will be under Major Construction January - September 2019 Due to 2012 Bond Package
The Solution:
Dallas Pride needs to find a new place to live. It needs to be more accessible, more convenient, and all of the problems the current pride faces need to be addressed and resolved.
Moving Dallas Pride to Fair Park would have the following benefits:
- Bathroom Facilities
- DART Rail Access
- Unlimited Parade Length and Size
- Power Outlets
- Room for Significant Growth
- More Visibility
- More Parking
- Included Vendor Facilities
- Beer Vendors
- Less Police Presence (Security Personnel Instead)
- No Need for Additional Park Venue for Festival
- Less Restrictive, Established Event Rules for the Facility
- Option to Move Dallas Pride Indoors
- Less Cost
The Arguments:
Why move Dallas Pride out of the gayborhood? It belongs in the gayborhood!
You may say this for one of two reasons. One you are a business stakeholder on the Cedar Springs strip and you don't want moving pride to impact your business. Two you really believe that moving pride is detrimental to the gay culture and history of Dallas.
- Dallas Pride hosts about 45-50k attendees.
- In 2015, Houston Pride hosted 700k attendees.
If you are worried about business being affected by moving 45k people away from the strip, you have not considered that an additional 650k people aren't coming to Dallas for Pride because it IS on the strip. A bigger event means more attendees. They would flood the strip with more business than ever imagined after the Fair Park festivities are over!
If you are worried about the history and culture of Dallas you have your heart in the right place. It's a painful decision for sure, but what really is the right decision?
Is it to have better access for disabled persons?
Is it to open up the event to people and cultures that don't usually see or experience pride?
Is it to connect with the greater city and region?
Is it to increase access to public transportation and make it easier for commuters to attend that normally avoid due to inconvenient parking?
Is it to move the power and benefit of pride to the hands of the people and away from the bar establishment?
Is it to create something bigger and better so that more can experience the magic that we love when we attend pride?
Is it to make a leap of faith and move Dallas Pride to Fair Park in June 2019?
The answer to all of those questions is - YES.

Also, there is a Dallas Tavern Guild meeting open to the public on November 1, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the Rose Room. They are asking for public opinion. Do the right thing! Make your voice heard and make a difference!
