Ryan Bulzan started this petition to Costco and

I grew up running errands at Costco with my parents. I remember walking into the giant warehouse, the cool breeze from the air conditioning welcoming me inside. I recall pushing the cart up and down the aisles, looking at all the “bits and bobs” that Costco sells. However, I also distinctly remember feeling unsettled when I saw the freezers full of chickens. Something didn’t sit right then—and it certainly doesn’t sit well now that I’ve seen the undercover investigation covered by the New York Times of a farm that supplies Costco.

What was unearthed in that investigation makes my stomach turn:

  • Chickens bred to grow so large, so fast that their own bodies can’t support their weight.
  • Hundreds of thousands of birds crammed into barren, dirty sheds, where they were forced to lie in their own feces for weeks on end.
  • Many suffered from painful deformities, ammonia burns, and even heart attacks.

Sadly, however, since this investigation broke, Costco has publicly stated the blatant cruelty found in its supply chain is “normal and uneventful activity.”

I don’t agree. That treatment is animal abuse—and I won’t stand for it. Our community of Dallas, Georgia (where a brand new Costco location is opening in March 2021) shouldn’t either.

If you agree that animals deserve better than to spend their entire lives enduring constant suffering and that consumers deserve transparency from Costco, please join me in urging Costco to adopt meaningful animal welfare standards by signing and sharing this petition.

Dallas, Georgia Costco: It’s time to end your support of cruel factory farming practices!
