Change “Columbus Day” to “Indigenous Peoples Day” in Dallas!

Change “Columbus Day” to “Indigenous Peoples Day” in Dallas!

The Issue

Joining cities across the U.S, like Seattle, Albuquerque, and Denver, it’s time for Dallas, Texas to formally recognize the plight of Native peoples in this country at the hands of Christopher Columbus and his people and to honor their memories and the struggles they faced.

To be clear, this is not about erasing history. This is about understanding that this country, and our ancestors who founded it, has had a track record of oppressing certain groups of people, and among those groups, the oppression and decimation of native American peoples often goes unspoken of.

It’s time for that to change. We cannot change the past, and we do not want to change history, but we can acknowledge the sins of the past and work towards making that history known today.
