D87 Education - We Can do better for our kids!

The Issue

CALL TO ACTION:

WILL YOU help us advocate for our D87 HIGH SCHOOL KIDS to get more IN-PERSON classroom time this Fall?

This SHOULD be a concern to BOTH sides of the aisle for ALL District 87 High school Parents, Guardians & ALL people that BELIEVE in the POWER OF EDUCATION.....

District 87 is only offering 8 hours of in-person learning per week, which falls short compared to the other public High Schools in DuPage County (stats below).  WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT so our kids are not left behind.  Please sign and share if you feel we need more than 8 hours of in-person learning per week.

Current Proposed back to school stats for in-person Learning:

* Source: 2020 Best Schools Niche "2020 Best Public High Schools in DuPage County"

  • District 87 - ALL Glenbard Schools: - 2 half days in-person, 2 half days remote, 1 flex day remote - Total of 8 Hours in-person per week.
  • District 203 - Naperville: 5 full days/week alternating between in-person & asynchronous - Total of 18 Hours in-person per week.
  • District 86 - Hinsdale: TBD (5-options) presented 7/23. Proposed 9-14 Hours in-person per week.
  • District 204 - Naperville/Nequa/Metea/Waubonsie : 2 full in-person, 3 days remote. Total of 14 Hours in-person per week.
  • District 205 - Elmhurst : 2 full days in-person, 3 days remote. Total of 14 Hours in-person per week.
  • District 200 - Wheaton: 5 full days/week alternating between in-person and & asynchronous. Total of 17 Hours in-person per week.

The American Academy of Pediatrics Recommended "All policy considerations for the coming school year should start with the goal of having students PHYSICALLY present in school".  Policies to Mitigate the spread within schools must be balanced with the known harm by keeping our kids at home.

Carmen Ayala, Illinois State Superintendent:  Ayala said, “The board of education strongly encourages schools and districts to maximize in-person instruction for all students. This may require some creative scheduling, but we know our incredible teachers and school leaders are up to the task and we’re here to help work them through any challenges that they may face.”

CDC: Reported data from February 1st - July 15, 2020 Kids 5-24 years of age have a 99.9% recovery rate from COVID-19.  https://data.cdc.gov/NCHS/Provisional-COVID-19-Death-Counts-by-Sex-Age-and-S/9bhg-hcku

When DOES THIS END?  When a vaccine becomes available? What happens when they report the vaccine is only 40-60% effective? Plus everyone may not be willing to get it. There will always be reasons to keep this very bad system of education in place.  Enough is enough!  Our Kids need to be in school for their social, mental, and physical development!

If you are at risk, synchronized learning should be available for those kids that cannot be in the classroom.

If you agree that we need to do better for our High School Kids……please sign  and share this Petition supporting our KIDS, for more time in front of their teachers in the classroom.

Our Children's Future......is thankful for your support!
