Kill "Olicity" and edit Felicity Smoak's character

The Issue

"Arrow" started airing in 2012 as a nearly instant hit on the CW. The show had somewhat of a rocky start, but found its footing and went strong for two seasons. The third season, one of the main characters, Felicity Smoak (played by Emily Bett Rickards), was written to be a sobbing, emotional, selfish damsel in distress character that strayed far from who she was in the first 2 seasons.

Also, the writers have listened to a group of fans called "shippers" that wanted Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell) and Felicity to start dating on the show. This led to an inconsistent plot throughout the entire third season as "Olicity" (the shippers' name for the dating couple) became the main focus, and Felicity's instability as a character came as a result of these writing decisions. Many fans, including myself, are outraged at the stupidity of Felicity's character and her constant crying, whining, and always wanting the plot and every character to focus on her.

For the sake of comparison to her character in previous seasons, I'll list some brief accomplishments and characteristics of Felicity Smoak.

SEASON ONE: Felicity was introduced as an IT assistant at Queen Consolidated, and in episode 14, joined Oliver in his crusade to save his city. She established herself as someone reliable, who could track things (and people) down, added some much-needed humor to this dark brooding drama, and gave us almost a heroine instantly in the form of a tech assistant.

SEASON TWO: (See: SEASON ONE). Takes a bullet from The Clock King at one point. That's about it.

Unlike Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) or Thea Queen-Merlyn (Willah Holland), Felicity's stoop to whining and crying all the time was unjustified as her character failed to develop at all. She ended up being on screen almost more than Stephen's Oliver Queen. And it was absolutely gut-wrenching to watch.

Oliver's Accomplishments: (S1) Killer with a noble mission. (S2) Misunderstood hero. (S3) Actual hero/reverted back to misunderstood hero/vigilante.

John Diggle's (David Ramsey) Accomplishments: (S1) Man of the Law. (S2) Oliver's brother in his crusade. (S3) Family Man.

Roy Harper's (Colton Haynes) Accomplisments: (S1) Street thug. (S2) Emerging hero/misunderstood "villain." (S3) Actual hero.

Thea Queen's Accomplishments: (S1) Annoying schoolgirl. (S2) Character with morals. (S3) Misunderstood and tortured/actual hero.

Laurel Lance's Accomplisments: (S1) Emotionally broken lawyer and upholder of the law. (S2) Emotionally destroyed drunk and tortured failure. (S3) Emerging hero/Actual Hero.

FELICITY SMOAK. (S1) Awkward sidekick that hacks things with a crush on hero. (S2) Awkward sidekick that hacks things with a crush on hero. (S3) Awkward sidekick that hacks things with a crush on hero.

NO CHANGE AT ALL.

My name is Christopher Rust. After 3 years of enjoying this hit CW adaptation of the DC Comics' Green Arrow, I have come to this website with only one goal: To save the show I and so many others love. To do so, I can't sit idly on my hands and wait for someone in the writing room to come to their senses. To end "Olicity," I must do something else. I must write to someone else.

If this petition became successful, "Olicity" would no longer be a central plot on the show, Felicity Smoak would revert back to the strong, dependent, stable character we had in Seasons One and Two, and the plot will finally focus on the storyline of the Green Arrow and not a forced relationship that includes Felicity's character being selfish, idiotic, and whiny every second she in onscreen (which is a LOT).

If this petition were to fail, Olicity will continue to spread through Arrow like a cancer, and ratings will fall even further than they have this season. The plot and Felicity's character will become even more unbearable to watch, and Arrow will likely not be renewed for a fifth season.

So please, help me get this petition going so the writers of Arrow will see this in time to make rewrites to Season 4 and make it the lovable show it used to be.
