The Issue

Veterinarians assume trusted positions where they are responsible for the safety and care of animals. Evidence published by CTV news of veterinarian Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi, reveals repeated abuse and animal cruelty that require immediate action of licence revocation.

Surveillance video shows disturbing and graphic content of Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi repeatedly abusing his patients.

Today he was sentenced to "10 months, 4 months suspended if member successfully completes 2 half-day didactic mentorship sessions relating to animal restraint and behaviour modification techniques and the rationale, 1 half-day mentorship session educating the member on the academic and scientific bases for animal restraint and behaviour modification techniques, an online certificate program in proper animal restraint and behaviour modification, a seminar on the low stress handling of animals, 1 day shadowing session to obtain exposure to and witness the application of the most current methods of appropriate animal restraint and behaviour modification techniques and a paper addressing what was learned in each section of the program."

"Under The Ontario SPCA Act, a person [who is charged with animal cruelty] could receive up to a $60,000 fine, imprisonment for a term of not more than two years, or to both and could also receive a lifetime ban from owning an animal."

In contrast, Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi's short suspension does not compensate for the damage that has been done. A more severe consequence is required to ensure the safety of our pets.

Please sign this petition if you feel Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi's should have his licence revoked.
