We are calling on the UK Government to take urgent action to reduce the cost of petrol and diesel by cutting Fuel Duty.

Fuel is not a luxury for millions of people across the United Kingdom. It is essential for getting to work, taking children to school, visiting family, attending medical appointments and keeping businesses moving.

When fuel prices rise, the impact goes far beyond the petrol station. Higher transport costs contribute to higher prices for food, deliveries, services and everyday essentials.

The Government currently charges 52.95p in Fuel Duty on every litre of petrol and diesel, while motorists also pay VAT on fuel. (GOV.UK)

This issue is personal to me because my work involves driving up and down the country. The rising cost of fuel has a direct impact on my everyday life and the cost of carrying out my work.

However, I also think about all the people who are struggling to put food on the table, let alone afford enough fuel to get to work, attend appointments or support their families. Many people are being forced to make difficult choices between filling their vehicle and paying for essential household expenses.

No one should have to worry about whether they can afford to travel to work or buy food because fuel prices are too high. That is why I am asking the Government to take action and help reduce the financial pressure on drivers, families and businesses.

We believe the Government should:

• Reduce Fuel Duty on petrol and diesel.
• Keep the current 5p-per-litre reduction in place beyond December 2026.
• Consider a further temporary reduction in Fuel Duty while households and businesses continue to face high living costs.
• Review the taxation of fuel to ensure motorists are not placed under unnecessary financial pressure.
• Take action to ensure reductions in taxation are reflected fairly at the pumps.

This is not about politics or party politics. It is about helping ordinary people.

Drivers should not have to choose between filling up their car and paying for other household essentials.

Workers, families, carers, small businesses, delivery drivers, tradespeople and people living in areas with limited public transport all depend on affordable fuel.

We are therefore asking the UK Government to act now, reduce Fuel Duty and help bring down the cost of motoring for millions of people across Britain.
