Protest the creation of a women's only gym hour at Carleton University

The Issue

Recently at Carleton Univeristy in Ottawa, Canada there has been talk of creating a women's only hour for working out in the gym. The concept of segregating men and women in any way is inherently sexist. Furthermore, creating a women's only hour without also creating a men's only hour shows the male community and any potential future male students, that Carleton University cares more about women than men. The proposal to create the women's hour at the gym, stated twisted statistics in order to manipulate the student body. The surveys mentioned from Ryerson University reported that prior to the implimintation of a similar program 50% of women surveyed reported that they felt uncomfortable using their gym space for several reasons. They reported that 80% of the women-identifying students surveyed experienced gender based violence. In a highly accepting gym community at Carleton where positivity and personal progress is celebrated, where many students can call the gym their own safe space; does not constitute segregation of the sexes. If at any point anyone feels like they're being intimidated or harassed, they should let the gym's supervisor at the desk entrance know to help solve the conflict; this option is open to anyone visiting the gym. Furthermore,  students pay an equal amount of money to use the facilities and should have unprecedented use to it at all regular gym hours. Let's create a safe space for anyone and keep the gym open to everyone!
