What is EAD?
Employment authorization documents are essential to legal employment in the United States. It allows an immigrant to legally gain employment, driver license and social security card.

With current crisis around COVID-19, USCIS has to speed up processing time of employment authorization documents.

At the moment the processing time is around ~8 months, which puts people lives at risk.

How EAD is related to COVID-19?
People who:
Maintain your buildings, deliver your food, work in hospitals, cook the food, perform critical business functions can be out there without legal status to work. 
With the onset of lay offs people who wait for their EADs can not participate in the available workforce that is also crucial to keep our cities healthy.
Long wait times expose already vulnerable class to more challenges:
1. No opportunity to gain legal employment that could provide health insurance. It increases the risk associated with covering own sickness, not reaching out for help and testing.
2. Lack of opportunity to gain employment with food deliveries and participate in gig economy as these services require SSN to perform background checks. Thus people who absolutely must work, already applied for EADs has to find ways to make money potentially exposing themselves and others and to COVID.
3. Long wait times to renew EADs without any extensions which will mean that once EAD is expired a person can no longer hold the job.
