LET NURSES HAVE A VOICE OF OUR OWN

Support Dedicated Nursing Representation at Mount Nittany Medical Center

We care for everyone. It’s time to stand together for nursing.

Every shift, nurses carry enormous responsibility.

We care for our patients.
We advocate for them.
We manage emergencies.
We work through staffing challenges.
We stay late.
We pick up extra shifts.
We work weekends and holidays.
And we continue showing up because our patients and our profession matter.

But when decisions are being made about our wages, staffing, workload, scheduling, working conditions, and professional practice, nurses deserve to know that our concerns are receiving the focused attention they deserve.

Nursing is unique. Our representation should be, too.

Nurses at Mount Nittany Medical Center are currently represented by SEIU alongside other healthcare employees with different roles and priorities.

We respect the contributions of every member of our healthcare team.

At the same time, we believe nursing has unique responsibilities and unique challenges that deserve dedicated attention at the bargaining table.

We are concerned that current negotiations are focusing significant attention on issues affecting ancillary staff while important nursing-specific concerns are not receiving the level of focused attention that nurses believe they deserve.

We believe nurses should have the opportunity to choose whether dedicated nursing representation would better serve our profession.

This is about having a choice.

We are not asking nurses to accept a predetermined outcome.

We are asking for the opportunity to decide for ourselves.

A dedicated nursing union could provide nurses with a collective voice focused specifically on issues such as:

Safe staffing and patient-to-nurse ratios
Patient safety and quality of care
Workload and assignments
Wages, compensation, and differentials
Scheduling, weekends, holidays, and call
Overtime and mandatory staffing
Recruitment and retention of experienced nurses
Respect for nurses and the nursing profession
Professional practice and autonomy
Professional development and advancement
Burnout and working conditions
Our patients depend on us. Our profession depends on us.

Nurses should not have to compete with other groups to have nursing concerns heard.

We should have the opportunity to come together, identify our priorities, and determine whether we want representation focused specifically on nurses.

We are asking nurses to stand together.

By signing this petition, you (as a current nurse and union member at the medical center) are expressing your support for pursuing dedicated nursing representation at Mount Nittany Medical Center and for allowing eligible nurses the opportunity to determine whether they want to change their current representation.

Signing this Change.org petition does not, by itself, change union representation or constitute an NLRB election. It demonstrates support for moving forward with the appropriate process for nurses to make that decision.

Our goal is to build meaningful support among nurses and pursue the applicable NLRB process for determining whether nurses wish to replace their current SEIU representation with dedicated nursing representation.

This is our profession.

This is our voice.

This is our opportunity.

One nurse can speak up.

Nurses standing together can be heard.

A united nursing profession can change the conversation.

SIGN. STAND TOGETHER. BE HEARD.

LET NURSES HAVE A VOICE OF OUR OWN.
