The current El Camino players, parents, supporters and citizens of the community Oceanside would like to request a new Boys Varsity Coach for the upcoming year. The El Camino Boys soccer program has a rich and storied tradition of excellence over the years. 

Parents and players are seeking to remove Coach Abel from his position as head coach of the El Camino Varsity Boys Soccer team.

We are genuinely concerned about the impact Abel coaching style has on the boys as well as the future of the program under his leadership. There have been many voices over the years expressing the same concerns but those have been ignored. 

We are encouraging parents, students and community members in the Oceanside School Dist. to sign in support of hiring a new coach to begin the 2018-19 school year.

The majority of current Varsity, JV and Freshman El Camino players WILL NOT participate in the upcoming soccer season if Coach Abel is still the employed by E.C. High School.

Reasons for removing Abel:

- Coach Abel treatment of his players is based solely on fear and intimidation.
- Coach Abel has targeted players using bully-like behavior including  yelling, intimidation and passive-aggressive behavior, singled out players and made “examples of” them during practices, made players sit on the sidelines as punishment like toddlers and called players names during practice and games.
- Coach Abel violates the Coach Code of Ethics guidelines that the school board and administrators have set for all coaching staff. 
- Players have quit the program due to his tactics, coaching style, family favoritism and even more potential players will not go out for soccer because of his reputation. 
- There have incidents during the 2017-18 season where Coach Abel has let players play that are academently ineligible and attendance guidelines have not been met. In any other position with the school district, this would be grounds for termination.
- He and his staff have been documented verbally abusing the players via text.
- Coach Abel has remained as a coach despite consistent complaints by parents and players through the years – none of which were documented by the school district.
- Previous NUMEROUS parent complaints for all these same reasons have been dismissed with Coach Abel and administration – and likely the reason no previous complaints were documented.
- This program, players, parents and community deserves the best for everyone.  Soccer is sometimes the only thing these boys have in life to look forward to and they're not getting it.
