It's a bitter pill to swallow, watching corporations and the super-wealthy pour money into campaigns and lobbying. While some might argue these contributions stem from political convictions, the reality indicates that big spenders are more often seeking favorable policy outcomes. Our democracy suffers when the balance of power tilts heavily in favor of those who can write the large checks.

Consider our proposed solutions: individual limits on candidate contributions. Unfortunately, the wealthy have found workarounds to these limitations by funnelling huge sums into independent political committees. Consequently, we witness a perversion of our political process, where a select few wield sizable influence.

According to a study by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, in 2020 alone, the political contributions from the country's wealthiest totaled over $14.4 billion, breaking all previous records. This concentration of political power in the hands of a few undermines the democratic principle of "one person, one vote." We can't let another Elon Ever happen again!
