Cupertino Residents Voice started this petition to Cupertino Residents

Many Cupertino residents were upset with Rod Sinks after seeing his photo on a flyer paid by Sand Hill Property Company, the Vallco Developer, in which he threatens Cupertino residents with misleading information while using his Vice Mayor title — if they sign the referendum petition to place the Vallco Tier 2 Plan to a vote, our city would likely end up with far worse.

Other than that, Rod Sinks has a history of damaging Cupertino back from 2012. Facts to show he worked for big-money, instead of representing residents first and foremost include:

  • Sinks failed to protect the rights of Cupertino residents to express their opinions by remaining silent while the Sand Hill-hired agitators harassed, intimidated, and even stalked residents with his flyer in hand.
  • Granted developers favors starting in 2012: Within months of becoming a City Councilmember, Sinks increased the office space by almost 300% and removed senior housing at Main Street, owned by Sand Hill Property (SHP), while no community benefits were given to residents.
  • Deceptively claimed to be “revitalizing” our shopping mall while creating an office park: Sinks promised Cupertino residents to revitalize Vallco Shopping Mall, while working with Sand Hill to turn it into a massive office park behind the scenes, starting as early as Aug. 21, 2012.
  • Favored massive office space at every opportunity at Vallco: Sinks pushed to grant Sand Hill Property 2 million sq.ft. office allocation at Vallco as an envelope, not an entitlement, in December 2014. Then, Sinks refused to establish objective standards on the Vallco parcels and allowed Sand Hill Property to claim the massive office allocation as entitlement for the Vallco SB 35 project.
  • As disclosed by Barry Chang, Rod Sinks conspired with him to terminate the City Attorney Randall Hom in order to hide the fact that Vallco SB 35 plan is not compliant with the General Plan, exposing the city to litigatigation. • Favored pet projects at the expense of schools: Sinks pushed to approve the Tier 2 Vallco Specific Plan in 2018 even though it provides very little benefit to schools while adding an estimated 1000 students. Sinks diverted benefits to pet projects like an empty-shell Performing Arts Center and an empty-shell City Hall, which may need multi-million dollars for remodel.

Please say No to Rod Sinks who betrayed Cupertino in the past 6 years. Sinks does not deserve to be the Mayor of Cupertino since he will create more damage. Cupertino desperately needs a fresh start.

No Sinks. No behind-closed-door deals. No conspiring with state legislators to benefit developers. No More Sinks.
