Cupe - Duty to represent - final notice

The Issue

Please allow this petition to be an official notice to all CUPE Components of Air Canada, the Airline Division and CUPE National, that Rouge flow through members demand the Union (including CUPE National) take immediate and swift action against our immoral freeze. Members flowing through from Air Canada Rouge to its Mainline carrier must see immediate action taken including but not limited to resources, attention, legal and lobbyists from National similar to the resources that teachers and healthcare workers are currently receiving.

Your members are suffering financially, emotionally and physically because of the flow through rules and pay freeze stipulations. We are tired of being treated like second class/B-pay-scale workers by Air Canada and our CUPE (the union meant to protect us). The number of those affected is growing in the membership and cannot be ignored any longer. Your membership will each lose years of salary growth and accumulation as a result of this immoral freeze resulting in up to several tens of thousands of dollars per individual member.

Should we not see immediate action to this issue with routine updates and movement, we will file a 'Duty to Fair Representation' and a class action lawsuit against CUPE for failing its members.

The wage freeze is, and has always been, immoral on a human level, with a clear goal to divide the membership and impoverish a group of workers for profit. The fact CUPE has allowed these terms to be cemented into the contract to begin with shows how little care the Union has had for Rouge members since day one. CUPE fought and challenged Rouge being a separate Union contract and company. It's time CUPE fights for more than just our Union dues, a certain group of members, and put money back in our pockets of those affected and seemingly forgotten.
