After the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in in-person classes turning to online classes, many students realized how helpful and convenient online classes can be when students have other responsibilities going on in their life. In person classes are great for learning, but online and hybrid classes are also great for students who work, have families to take care of, have a hard time commuting to school, etc. If CUNY implemented more online classes in their catalogue for most (or all) courses, that would help a lot of students, as they can balance their responsibilities better and not stress about having to take all their classes in-person, which might hinder their work duties or their other responsibilities may not be in line with only in person classes. Many students also don’t feel comfortable taking classes after dark and prefer to take later classes in the safety of their own homes, but they have very limited options. Online classes would make students feel more comfortable and ensure a safe environment for students to learn in. Most classes work just as well online as they do in person and many classes students take in college are not vital to have to go in person. New York students should have more options at CUNY for modes of instruction, as this would make CUNY more receptive of the many students’ needs and make CUNY more appealing to them.
