Save the Marquee!

Save the Marquee!
The Issue
Please support us in our appeal to keep our marquee up for the remainder of the pandemic. We have been told to REMOVE the marquee 12 days prior to opening. The marquee is providing a safe, fresh air, socially distanced area to serve locals and visitors, not to mention providing jobs too.
The covid-19 pandemic is VERY much still present. The government are still encouraging "Mask-Face-Space".
With the government giving hope to the hospitality industry by allowing food and drink to be served outside, we were looking forward to operating under the shelter of the marquee. We have full support from the licencing officer due to our strict following of the rules and regulations when previously open. We are working hard to get ready for this milestone, upgrading our tables, cleaning, putting up lights. We are also looking forward to providing student jobs for the summer again.
The marquee has seen many visitors over the summer (and a brief spell in winter) of all age groups both local and visiting. The feedback has been phenomenal. The elderly and more vulnerable have used us often as a meeting place throughout the afternoon for coffee or lunch service and we have been overwhelmed by the feedback from lots of people coming out of shielding for the very first time and feeling comfortable in this area. The younger generation have used this area to catch up with friends on an evening and we have seen lots of visitors, especially from the Pennine view camp site come down for a drink.
The local campsite, holiday lets and shops will soon be opening up. We are hoping to support the town by offering a service to help encourage and safely make Kirkby Stephen an attractive place to visit.
Please support us in our appeal, we have so much more to offer to support our town throughout the rest of this pandemic.
We ask what are the benefits of removing this relaxing safe space right now? Why now when this is the only way to operate (Outside)?
What harm are we causing by serving coffee, lunch, beer, pizza outside?
The marquee will not be up forever, but our thoughts are that it is of use until it is safe for everyone to meet inside.
We are more than happy to listen to feedback. Can we make anything better?
Our aims and ideas are for the benefit of the town and the locals on our journey back to normality.
We hope to see you all safely in the near future.
