Funding Cuts from the Toronto Public Library

Dear Culture Minister Eleanor McMahon,

As a full-time artist and one of the millions of Torontonians who use the Toronto Public Library, I was heartbroken and incredibly upset to hear that you have chosen to cut more funding from this vital Toronto service. The Toronto Public Library is a critical service used by individuals and communities and by cutting funding to one program, you are affecting all programs.  By cutting funds you are taking away a community hub, a place to study for students of all ages (including young children), services used by new Canadians, programs and classes for the elderly and so much more. Funding cuts will hurt those who need these services now more than ever.

As you can see by the number of fellow Toronto Public Library users, community members and artists who have signed this petition, we are asking, no, imploring you to reinstate monies and stop future cuts to the Toronto Public Library.

Please review the below statistics from the Toronto Public Library website.  This information is as of 2015. The number of people using the library is astounding. 70% of Torontonians use the library and 1.2 million people are registered Toronto Public Library cardholders. By cutting funding you are hurting the majority of the cities population. As of 2015, there were 18 million visits to the Toronto Public Library.  You can also see by the number of people signing this petition, how important it is to us, to our communities, our children, our aging parents and all Torontonians. Please re-instate funds, please don’t continue funding cuts, please keep this very important service alive.
