On September 30th Joey McDermott was fired by the Chicago Teachers Union.  His firing was said to be due to his "discourteous" behavior.  There were three alleged complaints from early May that were identified as the cause.  
CTU never shared any written evidence to support any complaints. CTU made no efforts at restorative practices, nor did they make any efforts to provide training as part of any remediation process.  CTU's insufficient due process steps (towards Joey) involved practices that CTU would never tolerate if done towards our own CTU members (by their employers).   

Over 215 members wrote emails to President Jesse Sharkey, asking CTU to reinstate Joey. These members testified to Joey's dedication, compassion, integrity, expertise, and reliability.  Most of all, members demonstrated the impact Joey had in serving them as a CTU field rep.         

CTU is a great organization that fights for workers' rights.  Please take action to ensure that we uphold all our values as an employer and as an advocate for employees.  Please sign this petition and share it with anyone you know that is a CTU member or cares about public education in the City Of Chicago.
