Due to COVID-19 student teachers across CA have been impacted with the inability to continue one of the biggest teacher requirements known as the edTPA/CalTPA. Health and safety should come first which is why due to COVID-19 student teachers in CA should not be held accountable for something we have no control over. With not having access to classrooms student teachers have no way of completing the edTPA/CalTPA. Student teachers should not have to worry about having to do the edTPA/CalTPA during this stressful time or in the near future as first year teachers. For those who do not know edTPA/CalTPA is an intense performance-based assessment that takes countless hours of planning, teacher justifications, videotaping of 3-5 lessons, and collection of student work. 

We ask the CTC, CA Department of Education, and Governor Gavin Newsom to use their powers and authorities to waive this teaching requirement. If not Teachers in their first year of teaching will be stressed and overwhelmed with having to worry about completing all the requirements they would have done if it were not for the unforeseen COVID-19. There are countless other exams and requirements student teachers have already completed up until COVID-19 happened. Teachers prior to August 2014 had no such requirement such as the edTPA/CalTPA. We ask that in these times of uncertainty and special circumstances that student teachers be waived of this intense requirement so we can continue our path of helping educate the 6.2 million students in CA. We want the privilege to be able to educate the brilliant minds of the next generations, please allow us the opportunity to do so by waiving the the edTPA/CalTPA requirement.

Debido a COVID-19, los maestros docentes de toda California se han visto afectados por la incapacidad de continuar uno de los requisitos más importantes para maestros conocido como edTPA/CalTPA. La salud y la seguridad deben ser lo primero, por eso, debido a que los estudiantes de COVID-19 no deben ser responsables de algo sobre lo que no tenemos control. Para aquellos que no conocen, edTPA/CalTPA es una evaluación exhaustiva basada en el rendimiento que requiere innumerables horas de planificación, justificaciones de los docentes, grabación en video de 3-5 lecciones y recopilación del trabajo de los estudiantes.

Pedimos al CTC, al Departamento de Educación de California y al gobernador Gavin Newsom que usen sus poderes y autoridades para renunciar a este requisito de enseñanza. Si no, los maestros en su primer año de enseñanza estarán estresados ​​y abrumados por tener que preocuparse por completar todos los requisitos que habrían hecho si no fuera por el imprevisto COVID-19.
