The Issue

Dear President Virjee,

With the rising COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles and Orange County, our student body is deeply concerned of what an in-person semester may mean for our students and faculty. Many of our student body commutes to campus, meaning the decision to return in person impacts not only our CSUF community, but our family and friends who could potentially be at risk for severe infection. Cases are higher than they’ve been the ENTIRE pandemic, and it would be careless to treat our current circumstance any differently than we did March 2020 and beyond. Two weeks online will not be enough to slow the spread of Omicron, and our school must act accordingly if there is any chance at returning to normalcy. We are deeply concerned for this decision for two weeks online, not to mention the impact this decision has on student housing and students who need to make an informed decision of their living situation. Please make the right decision and make the entire semester online, so that we can have a chance at slowing the spread of this new variant and keep our students and faculty safe.

The Decision Makers

CSUF President Fram Virjee
