Dear supporters,
Thank you for signing the petition. Kudos to the students for amazing organizing these past few weeks!
We will continue to pressure Chancellor White (wait for our email and phone campaign) to rescind EO 1100 and EO 1110 and will show up to the Board of Trustees meeting in November. It will either be the 7th or the 8th, most likely the 7th, so mark your calendar for these two possible dates. Below is a recapture of what happened during the Week of Action.
Students had a" wildfire" to spread the message about the harm of EO 1100 on Monday 10/23. Tuesday was a communal sharing of food as students "evacuate" or boycott buying from the university. The "flood" or students' walk out and rally on Wednesday, 10/25, led to the President and Provost having to coming out to talk to students. The students rallied again and showed up to the Faculty Senate meeting on Thursday, 10/26.
Students testimonies were heartwarming, honest and inspirational. President Harrison came earlier than the scheduled agenda to announce that she was able to negotiate with the Chancellor's Office to save Section F but we must ensure that GE would not go over 48 units and to give waiver to transfer students so that they would not have to take "extra units." Interestingly, no data has yet to show that Transfer students are harmed by Section F. There was no mentioning of other harms by EO 1100 (upper division science requirement) and no words on EO 1110. Faculty Senate then voted to keep the non-compliance stance of the last meeting's vote. This means faculty will not comply to revised EO 1100 and EO 1110. But then, they had another vote on the executive committee's resolution, supposedly to explain the non-compliance decision but it had its own problematic resolution statements that went back and forth on amendments and deletion. In addition to the confusion, there were two versions of the resolutions going around to confuse more folks. You can read more at our website. https://caeducatorsunited.wordpress.com/. In short, students won big on this first battle, and we will know soon the details of what President Harrison said and what the Faculty Senate votes meant.
Thank you and you can find more information at our wordpress page.
