Stop an impending system-wide conversion to a semester calendar
Stop an impending system-wide conversion to a semester calendar
The Issue
At Cal Poly SLO, this has been an important issue for the past couple of months. The students and faculty expressed overwhelming support for the quarter system. A task force, appointed by the university's president, recommended that a conversion not be pursued. And yet there is an impending conversion.
The current plan (to convert) seems to convey that the CSU administrators do not care about individual campus culture and the voices of students and faculty, among other issues. The choice of academic calendar should remain in the hands of individual schools, not the system administrators. The administration has not been transparent during this process and has not provided substantial evidence to justify the conversion.
While this change will not affect current students, it is our civic duty to ensure that Cal Poly (as well as CSUs Bakersfield, East Bay, Los Angeles, (Cal Poly) Pomona, and San Bernardino) is allowed to decide which calendar best suits the school and its students. Any other concerned students and citizens from other institutions are also welcome to join the fight. Thanks for your support.
