Crunchyroll and Sony Please Fire CEO Rahul Purini and COO Gita Rebbapragada

The Issue

Anime fans, it’s time to act! For too long, Rahul Purini has ignored the needs of the anime community. From AI subtitles to mistreating voice actors and mishandling Funimation’s transition, as well as moving dubs in house, not treating the VA's well. Mr. Wald's mail theft, Taking away Crunchyroll Hime and more, it’s clear that change is needed. We demand Sony fire Purini and Rebbapragada and bring in leadership that truly respects the fans and creators. Not to mention that Controversies are happening under their leadership and every controversy the company gets into they just keep condoning and plus when it comes to the dub uploads, it's still not fixed. Purini and Rebbapragada ruined Crunchyroll more than Benefiting them. Please sign this petition so that Sony listens and we can get this Bastard out of Crunchyroll, he's not the right person for the job. After 4 years on the job it's clearly proving they failed the community. On social media to get sony's attention use #firerahulpurini, #boycottcrunchyroll #sony #crunchyroll and #firegitarebbapragada. This Era needs to end ASAP. As they say Enough is Enough with this leadership

Listed are all the controversies that happened under their leadership which they keep condoning.

Crunchyroll has been accused of union busting and other anti-union practices in its English dubbing work.[109] After shifting to at-home recording during the COVID-19 pandemic, Crunchyroll announced a return to studio recording in May 2022.[110] Following this shift, Crunchyroll began to primarily hire Texas-based actors to use their Texas studio. Since Texas is a right-to-work state, the Coalition of Dubbing Actors (CODA) alleged that this policy shift was an attempt to thwart union organization among dubbing actors and encouraged them to pressure Crunchyroll to sign a union contract with SAG-AFTRA.[110] In September 2022, Crunchyroll fired Kyle McCarley from his role as the protagonist of Mob Psycho 100. McCarley, who is a member of SAG-AFTRA, had offered to work on a non-union contract for the third season, on the condition that Crunchyroll meet with SAG-AFTRA representatives to discuss potential future contracts but Crunchyroll refused.[111][112][113][114] In June 2023, Crunchyroll unlawfully forbade the developers of the Tower of God: New World mobile game to cast the voice actors from the anime because the game production was covered by a union contract.[115] In October 2024, Crunchyroll was accused of mail theft by voice actor David Wald. According to Wald, for five years the company received fan mail meant for him and gave the items to staff instead.[119] Crunchyroll stated that they did not intentionally open mail intended to others and were investigating the situation.[120] A couple of weeks later, Wald announced he left his role as the English voice actor of Gajeel Redfox in Fairy Tail and he would not return to Crunchyroll's studio following the accusation.[121] On July 8, 2024, Crunchyroll removed the comment section across all platforms, stating that it was done to "reduce harmful content", presumably in response to backlash from users being against Twilight Out of Focus.[77][78] . Firing a Staff member after just requesting for time off due to his mother being sick and the middle finger was shown to that person who was fired by that staff member. https://www.cbr.com/crunchyroll-firing-ada-request-accuse/  In July 2025, Crunchyroll faced controversy when the company allegedly used generative artificial intelligence for some of its subtitles, with The Verge and Engadget highlighting the German and English subtitles for Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show. Company president Rahul Purini previously denied using artificial intelligence in its translations.[134][135] A spokesperson for Crunchyroll later blamed a third-party vendor, acknowledging that the subtitles were AI generated.[135] The company faced further backlash in October 2025 when their subtitles for the Fall 2025 anime season were either missing or featured different fonts among other issues.[136] In December 2025, it was reported that Crunchyroll was eliminating its free, ad-supported tier at the end of the month.[96] In March 2026, it was reported that Crunchyroll suffered a security breach via their outsourcing partner, Telus Digital.[97][98] Crunchyroll was subsequently sued a few days later.[99]Also, In March 2026, Crunchyroll was sued for violating the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA). According to the lawsuit, the company allegedly disclosed user information to a third-party marketing company without consent.[137] They previously settled a similar lawsuit in 2023.[138] It goes to show that this leadership is a disaster, Purini and Rebbapragada MUST GO, this cannot continue
