The Issue

Recently, our Belleville, Ontario community was shaken by a heartbreaking act of cruelty. The abuse of a dog whose suffering should never have happened. This is not just about one animal. It’s about every pet in our homes, in our neighborhoods, and in our future. If we do nothing, we send the message that this kind of cruelty is acceptable. We refuse to let that happen.

This petition calls for stronger protections, stricter penalties, and real enforcement to prevent animal abuse in Belleville, Ontario and beyond. By signing, you’re lending your voice to those who cannot speak for themselves, and sending a clear message: animal cruelty will not be tolerated here.

Below is the information I posted to Facebook on August 7, 2025

To the people of Belleville and surrounding communities, this is a heartfelt call to action.

On July 7, 2025, Belleville Police charged Samuel Earle with "cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury. " The charge stems from an incident the day prior, where Earle was reported to have choked and beaten a dog. Disturbingly, I was told that he assaulted a woman who confronted him about the abuse, and has been charged for this as well.

Thanks to a post by Sheree Mowers on Facebook, advocating for support, I became aware of this case and attended Earle’s court appearance this morning (August 7) at 9 a.m. at the Belleville Courthouse. He arrived accompanied by two individuals I assumed to be his parents. His lawyer requested a new trial date, which was granted.

The next court appearance is scheduled for:
🐕 September 4, 2025
🦮 9:00 a.m.
🐕‍🦺 Belleville District Courthouse

What was most disheartening was the lack of community presence - only five or six people showed up to support justice for the innocent dog and the women who stood up for it. This is our chance to do better.

Thanks to the Belleville Police Force,  Sheree Mowers, and the woman who confronted Earle, the dog, thankfully, was taken to a vet for care, and has since been placed for adoption into a loving home. But the trauma remains for the dog, and for the community that witnessed such cruelty.

Animals, like children, depend entirely on their caregivers for love, protection, and safety. When we choose to bring an animal into our home, we make a promise to treat them with kindness and respect. In return, they give us unconditional love and unwavering loyalty.
