Croydon Council: Stop the sale of the Riesco Collection
Croydon's priceless collection of Ming Dynasty porcelain is at risk from cultural vandalism. These pieces are a real asset to the borough and should be cherished for the benefit of all. Selling them off to chase a quick buck is short sighted and will cause many residents in the borough to feel horrified.
- Leader of Croydon Council
Stop the sale of the Riesco Collection
We ask Mike Fisher, the Conservative leader of Croydon Council to reconsider the decision to sell off Croydon's priceless collection of Ming Dynasty porcelain. These items are much loved by Croydonians and should be kept for the benefit of all in the borough rather than sold off to chase a quick buck.
There are many ways to generate funding for culture and the arts and we urge the Council to look at these instead - Croydon needs investment in culture and the arts following the devestation of the cultural landscape in Croydon with the Clock tower, David Lean Cineam and Warehouse Theatre all being closed. Selling off these priceless items of artwork that were left for all in the borough would be a step too far. Once they are gone, they are gone forever.
