Remove and replace the mural of Winston Churchill in Croydon

With recent events both in the US over the killing of George Floyd and demonstrations here, including the toppling of the statue of Colston the slave trader in Bristol, focus is shifting towards interrogating Britain's colonial past.

That is why this petition calls on Croydon Council to immediately remove and replace the mural of Winston Churchill in respect of those who suffered from his racist policies and in celebration of the multiethnic community we are today.

Churchill was in no doubt a racist and a white supremacist - something which our history books fail to recognise. It calls on our leaders to lead by standing up for who we are, not what we are made to be. Let's start the national conversation right here in Croydon.

Ahead of Croydon's term as London Borough of Culture in 2023, we would like to see the mural removed and replaced by something that represents who we are as a community, created by artists from our BAME community. It is time to elevate their voices.

Winston Churchill's racism knew no bounds:

On Palestine:

Churchill's antisemitic conspiracy theories re Russia 1917:

On Gandhi and Indians:
