KARIN AND CATHERINE ADAMS SENTENCED IN BRITISH COLUMBIA - CHARGES OUTSTANDING IN ALBERTA

Animal Cruelty Legislation Advocates Canada
Oct 24, 2015
Dear friends,
Last week, Karin and Catherine Adams were sentenced for animal cruelty charges they faced in British Columbia. Both pled guilty and were given 20-year bans on "owning" animals (unfortunately it seems the bans do not cover being in the custody of animals or residing in a residence where others "own" them). I believe Catherine's ban is "national in scope" as reported in the article at the link below, but I have confirmed with the BC SPCA that Karin's ban is only enforceable in BC, as she was not convicted under the criminal code and can therefore not be subjected to a federal prohibition. Hopefully that can be changed if they are convicted in Alberta, as they still face animal cruelty charges there.
It was expected that Karin and Catherine Adams would go to trial in November. Unfortunately they walked into court, pled guilty, and were sentenced all on the same date. As a result, it is my assumption a plea deal was agreed to by Crown. Furthermore, because this happened unexpectedly, I had not even submitted the petition to Crown in BC. I will ensure that it is submitted in Alberta, and will do so in the very near future. Thank you so much for signing, and please continue to share. These two need to be kept away from animals across the country, and for a very long time.
