The unjust firing and targeting of Grace for speaking out against harassment in the workplace is an attack on student-worker power and the future of organizing nationwide. We demand that the management at the Crossroads dining facility rehire Grace.

Grace, a sophomore and student worker, anticipated being financially cut off from their parents due to their gender identity and sexuality as they started school at Cal. Driven entirely by fear of becoming homeless due to the high rent prices in Berkeley, Grace worked three jobs over their first academic year at Berkeley. By Spring 2016, they consistently worked 25-35 hours every week while taking on a full course load. These compounding factors made it impossible for them to dedicate enough time to academics. By August 2016, they decided that they would leave Cal until they had saved could save enough money to return to school.

Grace, a member of the Undergraduate Workers Union (UWU), worked at Crossroads until they were erroneously fired on March 2 by management in retaliation for speaking out against harassment in the workplace. They were fired via email after being targeted and harassed about turning in a form that proved their student status only after speaking out; no one else was called into the manager's office or emailed individually. This is a clear instance of Cal Dining selectively enforcing the policy that student workers must be enrolled.

They are now facing unemployment while struggling to pay rent and buy food. Please help support them by signing this petition and donate here ( until we win their job back! Students and workers from all across the dining halls on-campus will continue to fight for Grace's job as the Undergraduate Workers Union, join them!
