Vassar College is using the International Holocaust Remembrance Association's definition of antisemitism to limit freedom of speech on campus. The IHRA defines any criticism of Israel or its genocidal policies as antisemitism. The college has set up a webpage called "Condemning Discriminatory Harassment," whose first link is to the IHRA definition. Worse still, the college recently cancelled an educational event on the history of the Popular Liberation Front for Palestine. According to the Vassar Students for Justice in Palestine, "We rebuke the college’s complicity with the federal government’s fascist agenda and suppression of anti-imperial education!"
You signed a petition last year that criticizing the misuse of this IHRA definition. "We, the citizens and residents of Dutchess and Ulster Counties urge our representatives in local, state, and national governing bodies, commissions, and schools not to confuse criticism of Israel with antisemitism." The petition concluded with a warning: "We cannot allow protestors, teachers, students, workers, and public officials to be exposed to criminal liability, censure, firing, or false accusations of antisemitism simply because they dare criticize the state of Israel."
Why don't you write an email to Dr. Bradley (ebradley@vassar.edu) the president of Vassar College? I am sure that she has gotten a lot of pressure from the Jewish Defense League, some well healed alums, and our malignant fascist state. You don't have to be insulting to remind her that Vassar should be fighting for freedom of speech rather than censorship on campus.
