Dear friends,
We are entering Week 95 of Israel's attacks on Gaza, with 59,000 identified as dead from Israeli attacks (only a portion of the toll because many still lie buried and unidentified beneath the rubble and many have died from malnutrition and disease directly resulting from Israel's unending siege, You may wonder whether our phone calls, demonstrations, and letter writing have made a difference. I promise you they have. We have not stopped the slaughter but we have forever changed Americans' belief that Israel is a liberal democracy deserving our unstinting support. It was only by educating ourselves and millions of others about the Israeli project to displace and erase Palestinians and steal the rest of their land.
Our job is to keep informing ourselves and others. We need to understand in depth the responsibility of our own government in this genocide. It's not just Netanyahu. It's not just arms shipments. Our government is so deeply involved and so infrequently held to account.
On Sunday, August 3 from 2 to 5 pm at Old Dutch Church, 272 Wall St., Kingston we will be screening the investigative documentary "Who Killed Shireen?" chronicling the effort to identify how noted Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was deliberately targeted and murdered and identifying her killer. Needless to say, this investigation was not conducted by our government to defend one of its citizens nor by the Israelis who always say they are "looking into it." and then breaking into groups for discussion.
We urge you to come and bring the friends who you think would most want to learn, discuss, and then take action.
In solidarity,
Middle East Crisis Response
