A shark culling drumline came loose at Sunrise Beach (Sunshine Coast) this week with a shark hooked. Drumlines are killing sharks, attracting larger sharks to predate on stressed animals and creating an entanglement and drowning risk for swimmers and surfers by coming loose and entering the surf zone. They are a triple threat, to both wildlife and people.
The culling contractor was dispatched to the scene, but only the drumline was recovered, no shark was found.
Thank you to everyone who tagged, shared, and otherwise spread the word about the shark at Sunrise Beach this week. Make sure you follow us on social media if you don't already, that's where the latest campaign news breaks, and where you can share and spread the word the easiest.
It’s our duty to amplify these horrible incidents that continually occur as part of Queensland’s 60 year shark cull.
When will Mark Furner and Queensland Fisheries listen to science, and listen to the community, and modernise this program? Not yet it seems, so let's keep fighting.
