Criminalize the Sale of BLM Mustangs to Kill Buyers

Criminalize the Sale of BLM Mustangs to Kill Buyers
The Issue
These horses, known as BLM mustangs, are ripped from their homes and chased in inhumane ways. The least we can do is offer them safety after their freedom has been robbed. The word 'feral' has been tossed around to describe these magnificent creatures, yet if we trace them back to their Spanish origins, aren't we ignoring the fact that all who inhabit this land have roots elsewhere? Why should these mustangs be treated any differently?
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for the welfare of these horses once they are rounded up. However, it has come to our attention that these wild horses are often auctioned off, sometimes ending up in the hands of questionable buyers with intentions for humane or non-humane consumption. This practice must stop, as it subjects the horses to further trauma and even death.
We propose making it a criminal offense to sell BLM mustangs to anyone known as a kill buyer. To ensure the horses' well-being, auction houses should be held accountable and prevented from allowing these sales to occur. If rehoming of a mustang is necessary, the BLM should be obligated to take the horse back and be fully accountable for its care and safety.
According to the American Wild Horse Campaign, over 80,000 BLM mustangs are yet to find safe and secure homes. This staggering number highlights the urgent need for regulatory changes. It's our responsibility to protect these symbols of American heritage and ensure they are treated with the dignity they deserve.
By implementing stricter regulations and holding the relevant parties accountable, we can help protect the BLM mustangs from mistreatment and unlawful killings. These horses do not deserve to be treated as commodities, but as living beings with historical significance.
Join me in advocating for the rights and welfare of BLM mustangs by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure these beautiful creatures live safely and are respected on the lands they called home long before us. Please sign this petition to make this change possible.
