The Issue

My life has been turned upside down by a system that fails to protect fathers who genuinely want to be involved in their child's life. My daughter and I shared a beautiful bond until it started slowly disappearing. Without warning, her mother introduced a new man into her life as "Dad," and suddenly, my daughter was no longer allowed to call me by that sacred name. I wasn't just stripped of a title; I was stripped of my relationship with my child.

Despite being granted shared custody by the court, I am constantly met with obstacles that prevent me from exercising my parental rights. Calls aren't answered, messages ignored, and attempts to visit are met with legal threats. Standing on the other side of a door locked not just physically but emotionally, I realized parental alienation is a deeply painful reality for many fathers like me.

Parental alienation is the subtle yet severe weaponization of a child against the other parent after a custody order has been issued. This behavior undermines not only the legal structure meant to ensure a child's well-being, but also permanently damages the loving bonds between a parent and a child. Despite its devastating effects, current legal frameworks do not sufficiently protect children and their alienated parents from this emotional abuse.

According to the American Bar Association, parental alienation affects an estimated 13% of custody cases in the U.S., leaving countless parents and children in turmoil. The adverse effects on children, including depression, anxiety, and long-term relationship issues, are well-documented by child psychologists and advocates alike.

An immediate and concrete solution to this growing issue is to criminalize parental alienation practices that occur post-custody order. Legislative changes at the state and federal level should be introduced, recognizing parental alienation as a form of psychological abuse and setting clear penalties to deter such actions.

I call upon lawmakers, child advocates, and fellow citizens to support the introduction and enactment of laws that criminalize parental alienation in family courts. By holding alienating parents accountable, we can begin to ensure that children like my daughter are protected from being caught in the crossfire of adult conflicts and can freely love both parents without pressure or manipulation.

Please lend your voice to this crucial cause and ensure that the legal system is adjusted to safeguard the rights of parents and, most importantly, the well-being of our children. Sign this petition today to make a change for families and bring justice to alienated parents everywhere.
