Create tax incentives for ADA-exempt businesses to improve accessibility
The Issue
"The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members,"
There's a common misconception that, since the ADA, society is now fully accessible and that the physically handicapped have nothing to complain about. That just isn't true. While newer buildings are obligated to comply with the ADA guidelines, older buildings and churches are not. Things are better than they used to be but there is room for improvement. Imagine going on vacation and one family member uses a powerchair. Cute little town with cute little shops. And all of those cute little shops have a step to get into them. Either you don't go into any shops or someone stays with the powerchair user while other family members go in, then switch. Or the powerchair users sits out there waiting like a stray dog hoping for a crumb.
I propose a tax incentive for those businesses to become more accessible so wheelchair/powerchair users can enjoy time out with their families just like anyone else and spend money just like anyone else because they deserve to be welcomed into every aspect of society...just like anyone else.
So please sign and share this petition and let's see if we can help make this world a better place for the wheelchair/powerchair users out there.
To note: I use the term 'handicapped' rather than 'disabled' because that's the term my daughter prefers. Something that is disabled is useless. She is not useless. Her words, not mine.
